Imm Cologne: Italy is the protagonist
Friday 27 January 2017
At the fair 1,200 companies from 50 countries displayed over 100 thousand pieces of furniture and home accessories. These are the numbers of the 2017 edition of Imm Cologne, the event that inaugurates the busy schedule of exhibitions dedicated to the furniture and design industry.
Waiting for the Milan Furniture Fair, the German festival is the first valid showcase of new and upcoming trends. Among the events not to miss "Das Haus", setting up an ideal home, designed by a young international talent, the American Todd Bracher. Perhaps his name is not well known among non-experts, but over the years he collaborated with very famous companies: among others, Cappellini, Zanotta, Fritz Hansen and as creative director for Georg Jensen. He received awards and important acknowledgements, living and working for 10 years between Milan, London, Paris and Copenhagen, and then returned to the US and opened his own studio in Brooklyn.
To animate the city we saw several events including the exhibition Vivere alla Ponti (by the Italian Institute of Culture, from January 17 to February 3). Realised to mark the reissue of some of the furnishings of the master of the twentieth century edited by Molteni & C, the exhibition reports the architectural experiences of Ponti's industrial and household buildings.
The Imm Cologne trade fair opened its doors on January 16 at the Koelnmesse, the city's exhibition institution, occupying Halls 1-11 until Sunday 22 January. The fair, dedicated to furniture industries of all types, takes place each year and every other year is associated with a specialist event: 2016 was the year of LivingInteriors (bathrooms, floor and wall, lighting), while in 2017 we saw the fourth edition of LivingKitchen, dedicated to the kitchen world.
The entrance is reserved for operators in the first five days, while, in the final weekend, the exhibition also opens to the public. The exhibition is divided into nine sectors, including furniture and classic style, sections dedicated to upholstered furniture and beds, to modern and designer furnishings. The latter ones are divided into four Pure sectors (Pure, Pure Talents, Pure Editions, Pure Startup), with prominent companies and small niche business owners exhibiting, as well as young talents, networks of schools and designers.
