The calendar 2017 of the most important design events

2017 will be a year full of initiatives for fans of design and decoration. Although we are at the very beginning of the year, let's also make a list of the most interesting events.

Keep always an eye on the fairs, because there you can find out the latest news, and various initiatives take place in the cities hosting them, which makes the visit even more enjoyable. If you want to book a weekend away from Italy you may want to visit Cologne during the IMM Cologne, which is the first appointment of the year with one of the best furniture fairs (January 16 to 22).



On January 19, Toronto hosts for the 19th consecutive year the Interior Design Show: do not miss the installation Stone Age Folk born from the collaboration between Caesarstone, an Israeli company specialized in quartz processing, and the Spanish designer Jaime Hayon. This work will also arrive in Italy on the occasion of the Salone del Mobile in Milan (April 4 to 9), the most anticipated event in the design world; in this edition the highlights are Euroluce and Workplace 3.0 dedicated to the design of the workplaces.



January 27 to 30 Milan will host Homi, a fair about home and lifestyles. In Bologna we'll see Cersaie, the most important exhibition of ceramics and bathroom furnishings, this year at the 35th edition (September 25 to 29). In Paris, January 20 to 24, the attention is to Maison&Objet, the reference fair for home-fashion which this year will have an original theme: silence.



If you love the Nordic design, mark three events on your calendar: February 6 to 12 is held in Stockholm Stockholm Furniture and Light Fair, the largest trade fair of furniture and lighting in Scandinavia; from 9 to 11 May in Copenhagen is held the third edition of Northmodern, characterized by a particular attention to young designers; and in Helsinki the theme is of The House of Tomorrow (Habitare, September 13 to 17).
Collectors, gallery owners, designers, curators and critics meet at Art Basel, one of the most important fairs of the world art, held in Miami USA every December, and in Basel, Switzerland, each June.
September 16 to 24 is the time of the London Design Festival, which, as every year, offers a rich program of events and exhibitions (in 2016, they were over 400). If you are in London, take a look on the billboard of the New Design Museum, a building inaugurated at the end of November 2016 with 10 thousand meters for exhibitions, the largest in the design world.



You have time until March 12 to visit the retrospective of Dieter Rams: Modular World, hosted in the Vitra Design Museum, which celebrates the work of one of the most influential creative Germans of the last decades.
Returning to Italy, the Triennale Design Museum will host from Jan. 15 on its first exhibition to commemorate the centenary of the birth of Ico Parisi, "This exhibition," explains Silvana Annicchiarico, museum director, "is part of a path traced by the museum about forgotten people like Gino Sarfatti, Piero Fornasetti, Giotto Stoppino, Gherardo Frassa and also Ico Parisi, fundamental character of the Italian furniture trends after the second world war."
