The curvy furniture trend
Friday 21 January 2022
It's time to say goodbye to straight lines and sharp edges: the curvy furniture trend is here, and we love it!
The trend, as the name suggests, refers to the use of furniture with curved lines and gentle silhouettes, capable of adding a touch of glamour and elegance to any room.
Where does the curvy furniture trend come from?
The curvy furniture trend has its roots in the 1970s, when designers began to embrace a more feminine approach to furniture and accessories. The Danish and modern furniture of the 1950s and 1960s all had straight, clean lines but, with the arrival of the 1970s, people wanted something different. The trend continued into the 1980s, and was further encouraged by the revival of the Art Deco style with its sculptural shapes and curved edges.
Today, the 1980s are back in full force. In fashion, in design. Curvy furniture has a sculptural appearance, resembling works of art, and is dramatic in any context. Modern or classic. Especially the armchairs, chairs and sofas, perfect for creating comfortable conversation or relaxation areas: just think of Pedrali's Buddy which, also available in the sofa and pouf version, is a candidate to become the real star of the living area.
How to furnish your home with curvy furniture
Here are three tips to start furnishing your home with curvy furniture:
- Start small. If you're not quite sure how to deal with this style, and how it would fit into your décor, start with a small accessory: a chair, a lamp or maybe just a single pouf
- Be bold. Curvy furniture has a well-defined personality: go a step further and choose a covering that has just as much personality (velvet in a shocking colour is the perfect choice)
- Enhance them. Precisely because of their importance, furniture with curved lines cannot be placed casually against the wall: whether it's a sofa or a chair, move it away from the wall so that it can be admired from all sides.
