Bitossi Ceramiche was born in the early twentieth century in a production tradition of the ceramic that existed at Montelupo Fiorentino since the 1500s. In 1921, Guido Bitossi was the heir of the tradition of ceramics, forms the "Manifattura Maioliche Artistiche" with craftsmanship typical of the place . Traditional production is renewed thanks to the artistic direction of Aldo Londi, a man of innate creative and aesthetic sense, attentive to the evolution of taste.Determined will be the encounter with architect Ettore Sottsass, who will collaborate for many years in close contact with Londi. Bitossi Ceramiche, still today in its place of origin, still collaborates with important designers who are fascinated by the historical value of the company and the craftsmanship of the productions, creating unique collections.
The family has begun the historical collection of over 7,000 pieces, documents and materials related to artistic ceramic production from 1871 to today, thus forming a full archive. Thanks to this collection, in 2003, the MAIB - Bitossi Industrial Art Museum was opened, managed by the Fondazione Vittoriano Bitossi, direct family emanation. In 2014, at the "Week dedicated to Business Culture", the Fondazione Vittoriano Bitossi presented the biography and the exhibition dedicated to the master Aldo Londi, entitled "Aldo Londi. A Ceramic of the Twentieth Century ".On December 2, 2014, Bitossi Ceramiche was officially registered in the Register of Italian Historical Enterprises established by the National Chamber of Commerce.
