The designer and painter Carl Auböck (1900-1957) is one of the most extraordinary personalities of Austrian modernism. His work include furniture, metalware, ceramics and glass, as well as industrial products and sports equipment. After versatile accomplishments, among them two years at the Bauhaus in Weimar as a student of Johannes Itten, he took over the workshop of his father in 1926. While at that time in the workshop he still pursued a traditional range of objects for his customers in Vienna and the US; Wiener Bronzen. His paintings soon accomplished to a high artistic range and he created masterpieces of Austrian modernism. In the beginning of the fourties he developed his very particular style for handcrafted accessories and high class homerequisites that - after the war - would make him famous on an international arena.
