Andrea Trimarchi (1983) and Simone Farresin (1980) are the Italian designers who give life to the Formafantasma Studio based in Amsterdam.

Their interest in product design developed during the Master IM at the Design Academy in Eindhoven, where they graduated in July 2009. Since then, Formafantasma has developed a coherent way of working characterized by the research of experimental materials and investigation on the relationship between tradition and local culture, on sustainability and on the meaning of objects as cultural testimonies.

In perceiving their role as a bridge between savoir-faire, industry, object and user, the duo is interested in creating links between their research-based approach and the design industry.

The work of the Formafantasma Studio was commissioned by a number of partners including Fendi, MaxMara / Sportmax, Hermès, Droog, Nodus rug, J & L Lobmeyr, Gallery Libby Sellers, Established and Sons and Lexus.

Both when working for a client and when seeking alternative materials applications, Studio Formafantasma uses the same rigorous attention to the environment, the process and the detail. The additional particularity of the duo is that they do it without neglecting the historical, political and social aspects that describe each project.

The works of the Formafantasma Studio are present in some of the most important museum collections, such as the MoMA in New York, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Metropolitan Museum in New York, the Art Institute in Chicago, the Textiel Museum in Tilburg, the Stedelijk's-Hertogenbosch, the MUDAC of Lausanne, the Mint Museum of Craft and Design in North Carolina and the MAK Museum in Vienna. These museums have acquired their works for their permanent collections.

In March 2011, Paola Antonelli of the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the esteemed design critic Alice Rawsthorn inserted Formafantasma among the studies able to influence the future of design. Andrea and Simone teach lessons and conduct workshops in various schools and institutes. At the moment they hold a professorship at the 'Well Being' department at the Design Academy in Eindhoven.
